“The Great Gatsby” by Fitzgerald is a great american classic that is centered around the 1920’s. Where glamourous parties, roaring cars, and scandalous outfits, and activities were being pursued. With this paper I will compare and contrast Fitzgerald’s book to the 2013 movie adaptation of “The Great Gatsby.” One aspect in the book and the movie is the growth of the character of Gatsby . One aspect of Gatsby in the book and movie is in the beginning where Gatsby seems to be stalking Nick, and arrogant while throwing huge parties that are extravagant in every way. In the beginning of the book Daisy is out going always ready to hang out with anyone at anytime, then as the story progresses she becomes more reserved but still ready but the process seems slower. While in the movie the process of out going to being reserved happens quickly, a metaphoric example is experiencing a whiplash from a car crash.
There is also the aspect of Jordan. In the book Jordan seems cocky, and very reserved with her actions until Gatsby’s party where Jordan is laid back, and drinking and having a wonderful time, then goes back to quiet and reserved. While in the movie Jordan is cocky but she is not afraid to speak her mind and party to her fulness potential. Also during the movie there are indicators of a budding romance between Jordan and Nick, that Nick ruins the night of the huge fight between Gatsby and Tom.
Another aspect is the final quote between the book and the movie. The final quote in the book is not very noticeable in the book unless you particularly looking for it in the fine print that can pass by in an instant. But in the movie it becomes very prominent and striking with the visual artistry of the dock and the green light at the end of
