The Importance Of Shadowing In Elementary School

Every other morning I go to the elementary school. I have been shadowing for a little more than one semester. I chose to shadow Mrs.Gilsdorf because she has worked with Maypearl ISD for many years. I admire her, she is always concerned about what is best for her students and, she loves teaching. I chose to shadow Mrs.Gilsdorf because she is a well-respected person in our district. She is hardworking, and the first to show up and the last to leave.

In Mrs.Gilsdorf's classroom, she has the subjects they learn in sections so, that they can stay organized with their schedule. They have a certain order they do the subjects in. Some days are special, they don't do phonics every day. Every Wednesday is phonics day. We do all the subjects they normally do, we just add phonics.

If the teacher has been teaching for either a few years or many years, they do the same things they have always done. They just change it a little as new things they are required to teach move in.

At the elementary, the mission statement is that they teach the children to be respectful and caring toward each other. Teaching them that every person is important, that we all matter. In the hallways all around the school, there's encouraging posters around. At the end of the announcements the principal says, "Be kind to one another because we all matter." The children are sitting in their seats and as they hear that over the intercom they say it with her.

One thing I've learned is that there are certain things every student, in every grade, has to know how to do to move to the next grade. Mrs.Gilsdorf never moves on until everyone understands what they are learning. If they still don't understand she does three things, she'll send home an activity so that their parents can help, she puts them with a buddy, she moves on but continuously brings up the lesson at
