Ponyboy's message for Cherry relates to Johnson's message for the American people such that both believe that no matter what lifestyle or beliefs people might have, everyone is still human and still share a basic similitude. Ponyboy tells Cherry Valance, "We aren't in the same class. Just don't forget some of us watch the sunset too" (Hinton 46). The meaning of Ponyboy's words is that despite the social and class divisions between the Socs and Greasers, they are all humans who have emotions and feelings, capable of marveling at the beauty of sunsets. Lyndon Johnson shares similar sentiments as he tells the American public, "Let us now join reason to faith and action to experience, to transform our unity of interest into a unity of purpose.
