To sum up the movie “The Patriot”, we need only one word. Motivation. This is portrayed in several instances throughout the movie. One of the main scenes where this is shown is when Martin’s son, Thomas, dies. This inspires Ben to join the war effort and lead the militia. The death of his son inspires many of the other townspeople to join the militia as well. They looked to him for leadership and once he joined, they followed. Under Martin’s leadership, the militia realizes that they cannot beat the British by going muzzle to muzzle with them. Benjamin showed them that in order to beat the British, they needed to change the traditional war “rules”. He used his experience from the French and Indian War to see that they needed to use guerilla war tactics in order to defeat the British.
Towards the end of the movie, Martin’s son, Gabriel, decides to go head to head with the British commander, Colonel Tavington, after Tavington murders

It really furthered my knowledge on what happened during the Revolutionary War despite some of the obvious exaggerations. I liked how they used some of the things that Francis Marion had gone through to tie into the character of Benjamin Martin. I disliked, however, the fact that they killed Tavington. I understand that Hollywood felt the need to do this in order to please the viewers, but I think that in a way it almost discredits the accuracy of the movie. They have all of this good info that is accurate and applicable to the Revolutionary War, and then they throw in Tavington, or Tarleton, getting killed and never reaching Britain alive. I would recommend this to a friend because it is an excellent film, and it also teaches you a lot of accurate information about this time period. All in all I think that the movie “The Patriot” helped give me a much clearer picture of what it was like during the Revolutionary War as well as a lot of the events that took
