Everything breaks or just needs to be repaired, and more than likely you will either fix it yourself; or call someone. Someone like a electrician, a plumber, maybe a carpenter. More than likely it's just one person that can do all those things. A general maintenance workers can do these task; seeing as their certified in all these trades.
General maintenance workers do all trades of repair. In an article they say “ The largest employers of General maintenance and repair workers were as follows: Real estate and rental leasing 20% , Manufacturing 14%,...”(bureau of labor statistics). In the field of general maintenance “Annual wages: $35,294.00, and the 2015 National average hourly wage - $18.73” (Texas workforce commission). This is in fact what you would be making when working with an employer, not including if you were your own employer. Mostly general maintenance work long hours and weekends, or will be on call and go when they are neede. Now for the job outlook “Employment of general maintenance and repair workers is projected to grow 6% from 2014 to 2024, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Employment will increase as the real estate market continues to improve”(Bureau of labor statistics). As far as level of education required for a job in general maintenance “many maintenance and repair workers learn some basic skills in high school shop or technical education classes, postsecondary trade or vocational schools, or community colleges”(Bureau of labor). So it is possible to get a job straight out of highschool. Though most employers probably want some on with some sort of college degree. College is great to help you further progress; “Studies in the Maintenance Technology AAS degree program include basic shop skills, electrical wiring, plumbing, painting and refinishing (interior and exterior), welding, estimating, blueprint reading, air conditioning/heating and carpentry to include roofing, flooring, walls, doors and windows, cabinets”(Central texas College).
