How does it feel knowing you can be a part of an impact? Our democracy gives power to the people. There has been a widespread of discussions and arguments concerning new voter identification laws. Critics are debating whether or not voting in the U.S. is a right or a privilege. The sole purpose of photo ID requirements laws are to be enacted in order to eschew fraudulent votes. However, minorities such as the elderly and the poor are not given the chance to vote just because lack the required photo ID. Voter IDs are simply unnecessary. It’s a tactic to keep certain voters from polls. A variety of studies found that voter fraud is the result of a voter making an honest mistake, however these mistakes are extremely rare! Studies also show that it is useless for photo ID requirement. There have been acts of voter persecution and dispersal of counterfeit information about when and where to vote. None of these cases can be resolved with a photo ID. Voter ID laws will create an unjust effect on poor individuals especially those who can’t afford government issued IDs and thus don’t have one which can include students, senior citizens, disabled people, and racial and ethnic minorities as well. …show more content…

About twenty-five percent of African Americans citizens who reach the required age to vote do not have government-issued photo IDs either.
