I believe happiness is a choice that you make, you should not let anything change that. In the book, Of Mice and Men, Lennie is always happy even though he doesn’t really get to choose but it still should be a choice. Lennie went into Crooks room and “Crook scowled, but Lennie’s disarming smile defeated him” (Steinbeck 68). To me that is an example of happiness being a choice because Crooks could have chose to scowl at Lennie but he stopped when he saw him smile. Another example was when George was going to kill Lennie and they were talking about their American dream and “Lennie giggled with happiness. An’ live on the fatta the lan” (Steinbeck 105). That is another example of happiness because Lennie was happy all the way through even though George was going to kill him and got mad at him, he was happy. …show more content…
“Ask yourself whether you are happy, and you cease to be so” (McMahon). What I think he means by that is it’s up to you if you want to be happy. Even if you are sad about something think about the positive things in life. I agree with McMahon from the New York Times about being around friends and family can make you happy (McMahon).
