In "The Scarlet Ibis," the author James Hurst uses references to death to show when your pride gets in the way it can cause you to make big mistakes. In the story the character Brother makes everything about himself. The first example is he pushed his younger brother Doodle until he literally died because Brother didn't want a disabled brother. The second example I chose to show this is a quote that Brother said at the end of the story "I lay there crying, sheltering my fallen ibis."
