The Fallen Child “For a long time, it seemed forever, I lay there crying, sheltering my fallen scarlet ibis from the heresy of rain” (Hurst 6). In the story ‘The Scarlet Ibis’ by James Hurst, the narrator, Brother, has a brother named Doodle. Doodle was born with a very small and weak body. Doodle had a high chance of dying when he was born but he did not die. Doodle and his family saw a scarlet ibis fall to its death and Doodle was very saddened by it. Doodle died soon after he witnessed the scarlet ibis. Brother is at fault for Doodles death because he knew that doodle is weak but he still left him in the rain by himself. Doodle had a fear of being alone after growing a strong connection with his brother. Brother spent many days with Doodle.
