The short story “Checkouts” by Cynthia Rylant is a story about the young minds and hearts of teenagers and how they can change in a very fast. Love is a very complicated emotion that is almost impossible to understand. I will use two elements to show what the author used to communicate the aforementioned theme to the reader.
