Throughout Liam O'Flaherty's story, “The Sniper”, the main character also known as the sniper demonstrates a risk taking, but cautious, patient and remorseful side to himself which leads to the conclusion that he's a determined character.
At the beginning of the story, the sniper ponders whether to smoke or not and does so “hurriedly”. Even though this puts the sniper in danger, “he decided to take the risk”. This action is done cautiously which demonstrates his determination to stay safe while being successful. It was his hesitation to smoke that emphasizes his determination in the story.
