In the passage, The Train From Hate, author John Hope Franklin writes about a time in life where he had to learn that some people will try make you feel less as a person, however you should not allow them to have that power over you. Author, John Franklin, brings up in his passage issues about racism, specifically on a train ride to a town just 6 miles outside of his all-black hometown Rentiesville, Oklahoma . The story is based off of a past time that significantly impacted his life, during segregation, when colored people had to have separate housing, shopping, and seating, than white people because they were viewed as less than. In this story Franklin’s main point to get across to the readers was that you should not let anyone make you feel inferior to them nevertheless allow yourself to waste your energy on arguing back but instead be above the situation. The lesson that readers can gain from this passage is not give someone the power to control your emotions and reactions. After reading this passage, I would say that I agree with what the author states about how to handle a difficult situation and to not let it get the best of you. …show more content…
