The Progressive movement began during the 1890s. Two of its most important leaders were Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson. Although they were both leaders of the Progressive movement, they had different ideas. Theodore Roosevelt had the New Nationalism and Woodrow Wilson had the New Freedom. The progressive reformers focused on fixing child labor, voting rights, and on trusts. Child labor became very widespread after the building of all of the new factories. These factories were very large in size, so more workers were needed. Factory owners turned to children. Many children died either because of diseases or injuries from the factories.
