Even though Thomas Andrews Jr. was not an extremely famous engineer like Thomas Edison, he became the principal architect for one of the most famous ships, the RMS Titanic. Thomas Andrews Jr. was born on January 7, 1873 in Comber, Northern Ireland and died on the sinking ship on April 15, 1912 at the age of 39. Andrews was a shipbuilder and a Titanic victim. He was the nephew of Lord Pirrie who was the owner of the shipbuilding firm Harland & Wolff, the builders of the Titanic. He left school, Royal Belfast Academical Institution, early at the age of 16 to become an apprentice at Harland & Wolff. On June 24, 1908, he was married to Helen Reilly Barbour, and two year later on November 27, 1910, he had a daughter named Elizabeth.
