According to Albert J. Reiss, Jr., there are three components of social control that explain deviance. The first is a lack of proper internal controls developed during childhood. Low self-control is seen to be directly correlated with crimes because in the social control theory it is believed that everyone is inherently criminal, whether or not they act on it is due to their level of control.
