In the movie, “Three Sovereign for Sarah,” the citizens were being accused of witchcraft in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. One of the most important contributing factors that I believe lead to the hysteria of witchcraft was religious belief and control of the Puritans. The Puritans believed that witches were followers of Satan and that they should be condemned to hell. True Satan followers could not recite the, “Our Father,” without a mistake. Witches could be very tricking and disguise themselves by pretending to believe in God. The Puritans believed that spectral was a sign of evil being present, such as the yellow bird and black shadow surrounding a person.
