Thunder and Prey Essay “A sound of Thunder” is a story about a group of people who go back in time to kill a dinosaur. Not just any dinosaur, but a Tyrannosaurs-Rex. “Being Prey” is a story about a person who is attacked by a crocodile in a national park in Australia. These stories have many similarities and differences in setting, conflict, and theme. You may be asking “How is a story about time traveling and crocodile attacks in Australia similar?” Well, keep reading to find out.

First of all, even though the settings of these stories would seem like they have nothing in common, they actually do. Both stories take place in a dangerous setting, full of predators on the prowl. Also, in both stories the main characters are in a place where they don’t belong, or any human belongs for that matter. Of course they have their differences though. “A Sound of Thunder” takes place for the most part in “the jungle of sixty million two thousand and fifty – five years before President Keith,” but a portion of the story takes place in an office in the year of 2055. On the other hand, “Being Prey” is set in a swamp area in “Kakadu National Park,” around the present time. Both take place in different places, but are still very similar in more ways than the setting.

In both “A Sound of Thunder” and “Being Prey” both Eckels and Val are faced with a life threatening situation. As Eckels states “I was always sure I’d come back through alive… This time, I figured wrong.” They are also both attacked by an animal from the reptile family. Eckels being attacked by a T-Rex and Val a crocodile. The difference is that Eckels alters the future after in fear walking off the path designed to stop them from altering the future and he, as you can guess, alters the future.
