Have you ever heard of a man whose commendable work changed the lives of millions? Thurgood Marshall, a dedicated lawyer and judge, impacted a multitude of communities all over the world by dismantling segregation. As a lawyer and later Supreme Court Justice, Thurgood Marshall's most incredible feat was the landmark Brown v. Board of Education. This declared segregation in public schools is unconstitutional. This opened doors for desegregation across the nation. Thurgood Marshall's devotion to freedom single handedly tore down the walls of segregation and changed the world for generations to come. Thurgood Marshall was born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 2, 1908 to Norma and William Marshall. He attended Howard University School of Law and was educated on …show more content…
Thurgood Marshall led the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) as the chief of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. The NAACP is an interracial American organization created to ensure that civil rights remain protected. This organization abolishes racial discrimination in housing, education, employment, voting, and transportation. It was organized in 1909 in New York City and its main founder was W. E. B. Du Bois. The NAACP is currently governed by the National Board of Directors, which is a group of activists. Thurgood Marshall's accomplishments were honored by the Thurgood Marshall United States Courthouse located at 40 Foley Square, New York, NY 10007. The architect that designed it was Cass Gilbert, who designed it in a neoclassical architectural style. The courthouse was built between 1932 and 1936 and has a number of 37 floors.
