Jemima is an interesting character. In many parts of the story she can be classified as trustworthy. But during the story she learns an important lesson. Although Jemima is, obnoxious, and decisive she learns many lessons throughout the story Time Enough For Drums by Ann Rinaldi. She is known for running off on her tutor many times, but she can also be trustworthy by keeping important secrets in the story.

In this story jemima is described as decisive because of an important decision she makes between her sister Rebeckah Emerson who is a tory, and her close friend/Soldier John Reid. Rebeckah threatens to leave Jemima's home because she dislikes John Reid being there because he is very sick and she has a baby. Jemima's mother states to her

One day Jemima looked through her tutor John Reids notes. Doing this she discovers a secret that Reid is really a spy for the american army rather than the tory he said he was. On page 104 Jemima states “An American spy? But how could it be? He was an avowed tory” (104). John had always told Jemima's family that he had been a tory but really had been a patriot the whole time. Jemima never told the secret throughout the war and the Americans won. Therefore, Jemima is trustworthy because, she kept a very dangerous secret that could have gotten John killed.

Also throughout the story Jemima can also be described as nosy. For example Jemima eavesdropped on her brothers conversation. Her brother dan was talking about how her mother was writing secret notes to the Gazette. On page (41) Dan says “you could help it. You listened when you weren't supposed to” (41). He was upset because Jemima had no right to listen to the conversation. Finally, Jemima is nosy for listening to things she shouldn't have.

Jemima has many different characteristics in the story which make her stand out. Although the trust she kept John Reid and her mother alive she learned one lesson. To not evade people's privacy because it can get her into a lot of
