“I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand” (Lee, 149). In To kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee wanted to show the audience what she believes is real courage; instead of them getting the idea that courage is just a big tenacious man who runs into burning buildings. Harper Lee’s book, To Kill a Mockingbird, took place in Maycomb, Alabama. Throughout the novel, Atticus Finch and Tom Robinson show the audience that being courageous is not always someone who performs a heroic act, it can be as simple as doing what's right despite what people think of you or trying your hardest even if all the odds are stacked against you.
