How do you prevent government from turning into a tyranny? You have to make sure that a person or group doesn't accumulate too much power to abuse. America created the Constitution in 1787 to make sure that the government couldn't turn into a tyranny. The Constitution guarded against tyranny in fours ways which were giving power to the government and states, dividing the power into three branches, balancing these three branches, and equally representing both small and large.

The first guard against tyranny was giving both government and states power which means that the states could still govern themselves how they like and the government could enforce the laws the made.
