“That government is best which governs least” is a quote found in Henry David Thoreau’s short story, “Civil Disobedience.” This belief is found very true in many transcendentalist works of literature. Jon Krakauer writes in his novel Into the Wild about a man named Chris McCandless and how he tried to invent a new life for himself. McCandless’ journey for a new life began in April of 1992 when set out into the Alaskan wilderness alone. He had given his savings to charity, abandoned his car and many other possessions, and then he burned all the cash in his wallet.
