Gum. A simple stick of some some ingredients mixed together to make something fun and flexible to chew on. Recently scientists found chunks of gum that human teeth marks that are thousands of years old! So the need to chew is nothing new. Gum can also be used to do many other things; to pass time, to have a bubble blowing contest, or even to make a quick fix! However, most people prefer to get what their money is worth and want long lasting flavor that could last super stretched time! So which of the these three major companies of gum flavors last the longest; Trident®, Orbit®, or Wrigley®? But in order to see which one will last the longest, what is the starting point for all gums?

What about Trident gum? Trident gum was introduced in 1960 and manufactured by American Chicle. It originally was a sugared gum that was designed to combat tartar on the teeth. The “tri” meant three enzymes it had that was said to dissolve the tartar, and the “dent” notified the customers that it was made for dental health. Later, in 1964, it was re-invented without sugar due to the fact that sugared gum might have contributed to cavities and at the time was the only gum brand that did not use sugar. But how do they do it without sugar? Well instead of sugar, as a substitute, they use sorbitol, Mannitol, Aspartame, Sucralose and Acesulfame Potassium. It’s proven to reduce cavities by 30%! The actual action of chewing Trident’s sugar-free gum for 20 minutes after eating, starts saliva flow, which helps to prevent cavities by shrinking plaque acids and strengthening teeth.
