In “Two Kinds” by Amy Tan and “Dreaming of Heroes” by Bissinger both discuss how Jing-Mei and Mike listen to both of their parents similar and different. In both of novels, parents have high expectations for their kids, however, the kids don’t want to do what they expect them to do. In “Two Kinds” by Amy Tan. Jing-Mei Woo’s mom had a lot of high expectations from her. Her mom wanted her to be a prodigy that she didn’t want to be. Her mother liked the idea of Shirley Temple. It said that Mike’s father had always wanted his son to go to college and to play football. It also said that when Mike was a little boy playing Little Leauge baseball, he could not do wrong because of the demanding of his father. When Billy had an illness, it took Mikes self-confidence away about playing football. It says “But his own obvious lack of confidence caused some of his teammates to lose faith in him in a tight game” (Bissinger, 76) Mike’s father expects him to have confidence no matter what and to always play football. When his dad died, Billy knew how much it would mean to him to keep playing and so did everybody else.
