I have come to understand social justice as the need for fundamental rights and equality in society. I have learnt that I must be able to think critically, act ethically and be concerned with all issues of social justice. I have discovered throughout the degree paper and the practium placement that what I do can communicate and reinfornce strong, sublte and repeated social messages to children and families about what is valued and what is not. My understandings there are consequences of the messages within my practice and actions are sending to children and their families have been highlighted.

New Zealand is increasingly diverse, culturally, ethnically, socially, and linguistically. There are also children from diverse family forms or structures.
