World War II was a horrific event, in which the Axis and Allies fought across Europe and the pacific. In this war there were war crimes committed on both sides and although many were persecuted some were given immunity. A war crime is something that breaks the law of war and the law of war “is a legal term of art that refers to the aspect of public international law concerning acceptable justifications to engage in war and the limits to acceptable wartime conduct” basically breaking the laws of the Geneva Convention.

Japan-unit 731
In 1938, a biological and chemical research facility was setup as a classified unit called the Epidemic Prevention and Water Purification Department, also known as Unit 731. At the secret facility, humans were used as laboratory rats, to observe how they would react being exposed to different types of germ warfare, including other types of torture. General Surgeon Shirō Ishii of Imperial Japanese managed the facility and was the overseer of all the different experiments that took place within Unit 731. At the Epidemic Prevention and Water Purification Department, the most common type of medical practice at the facility was injecting captives with different types of diseases, and using vivisection with no anesthetic, to observe the reactions that took place. Unit 731 performed human experimentations until 1945, when the Soviet Union declared war on Japan, and subsequently when the Japanese surrendered to United States. During the

The doctor in this very photo is General Shirō Ishii, the mastermind behind the very existence of Unit 731. Its hard view images like these, yet alone fathom the agony and suffering that every individual who was a captive at Unit 731. However, there is more to the story, as for why Japan took such an interest in the creation of Unit
