In order for services in the health and social care sector to meet essential standards and support their staff in the working environment, supervisions are vital; the health and social care act 2008 makes it a legal responsibility for organisations to train, supervise and provide appraisals to staff fittingly in their role of providing care and support. Additionally this means that staff should be enabled and should be given the opportunity to develop their professional development and gain further qualifications appropriate to their role and responsibilities.
If companies are CQC registered they are required to follow the codes of practice and standards in which supervisions are a method of doing this, they must be able to provide evidence that they are employing staff who are able to meet the standards and that the organisation is demonstrating a monitoring system that provides adequate continuation of meeting professional standards; although even if organisations are not CQC registered it is still best practice to follow guidelines to ensure their staff are supported in relation to their responsibilities which will enable them to deliver support/care safely.
