There were many major factors that led to urban sprawl during the 1950s. The building of new highways was one of the contributing factors. After World War II, the government started to build many new roads increasing the interconnectivity between cities. According to Peter Hall, new roads and home loans are two leading factors of urban sprawl at the time. These roads also allowed people to live in the new suburbs and to commute to the cities where they worked. Peter Hall marks the GI Bill as another factor to urban sprawl. The GI Bill helped cause suburbanization in a couple of ways. The GI Bill would allow veterans to go to college which allowed them to move up and obtain middle class incomes to afford homes as well as home loans. These
