Homicide detectives are useful in many ways and serve multiple purposes. Homicide detectives do many things that benefit a family and to help bring justice to them. The purposes of having homicide detectives; the impacts and benefits they provide. What are the purposes of homicide detectives? Using my sources to help me provide factual evidence and statistics about the purpose. The purpose of having homicide detectives are they have multiple ways to pursue a criminal that help solve murder cases.
Fingerprints are used as important evidence to help solve a case. Nagel, the author of “Forensic Science,” asserts how fingerprints help the investigation. He states “Although fingerprints have been used by crime investigators for more than a …show more content…
Blood evidence is often used as evidence to determine involvement in a crime. Blood evidence can be an important and can be tested to see if it matches DNA. Lerner describes that blood evidence can determine innocence or guilt. He states “The evidence available through blood typing is not as convincing as genetic fingerprinting, but it can readily prove innocence or increase the probability of a defendant being guilty” (Lener 1790). Blood type can be used to determine innocence or guilt easy. Homicide detectives can see if a person is guilty is if the blood type matches the blood found at the scene as evidence. Lerner explains that there are only four types of blood groups. He states “ All humans belong to one of four blood groups–A, B, AB, or O” (Lener 1791). Blood evidence is a more reasonable and less complex way to use as evidence in a case. Although blood is reliable, when blood dries it can become more difficult to read. When blood cells dry they look differently as opposed to wet blood. Lerner describes how dry blood cells can interfere with an investigation. He states “When blood dries, the red blood cells split open. The open cells make identification of blood type trickier because the clumping of cell fragments rather than whole red blood cells is more difficult to see” (Lerner 1791). Ballistic analysis is an important factor when working on a case. Ballistic analysis examine evidence real close. Lerner explains the importance of ballistic analysis. He states “Ballistic analysis has been an important part of the work performed in crime labs” (Lerner 1789). In crime labs detectives rely on answers from ballistic analysis. Ballistic analysis compare evidence from one thing to another. Lerner describes the ballistic technique. He states “The technique can be used to compare the evidence or sample with bullet-lead associated with the accused” (Lerner 1789). Ballistic analysis can be used to identify if the accused is guilty. Comparison microscopes allow homicide detectives to look at the tiny specks of evidence closely. Microscopes can be used to look at the small picture then make comparisons to the actual evidence and samples. Lerner describes how detectives use comparison microscopes to simulate if a weapon was used at a crime. He states “ Comparison microscopes, which make it possible to simultaneously view and compare two bullets, are an important tool for forensic scientists” (Lerner 1789). Comparison microscopes compare and contrast evidence found. Even though comparison microscopes are useful, if a bullet shatters they can not use the microscope.
