Although independence sounds great, I think it’s time to hang up the coat. General Washington has asked our army to stay at Valley Forge for another nine months! Valley Forge (1777-1778) is where I am right now. I am getting tortured by the temperatures. My feet feel like they're going to fall off any day now. Suffering for another nine months will be the end of me so I think it is time to leave. I am not re-enlisting because of the death and illness, the harsh conditions, and we have no help with little supplies. One of the big reasons I am leaving is because of the death and illness. Half of our army is sick so it’s not looking good for me. I found that 3,989 people are sick at camp when there are only 8,000 people total (Document A). I recently saw a picture of my troop and the image was appalling. You could see we were suffering. The lack of supplies for our needs was overwhelming. In the picture, everyone is injured and we have no medical supplies (Document B). All of the soldiers are bleeding and in desperate need of simple things like shoes(Document B). Not to mention all of the repulsive clothing we had to where (Document B&C) The pain of going through another nine months without any supplies or help from anyone would be torturous. The last reason for leaving Valley Forge is because of harsh conditions. The misery of the army is unbearable. We are fatigued, we are covered in nasty clothes, we use “ cookery, and we smoked out our senses(Document C). In addition, when marching through the snow the enemy can easily track us down because our feet are so injured. The blood from our feet leave a trail where we are going. I’m not convinced the anguish is worth the pain just to gain freedom from Britain. I mean my family has enough money for a good life I can deal with the
