He used these words to describe George William Frederick III’s rule. What is Valley Forge? During 1777 and 1778, Valley Forge was a military base located 18 miles North-West of Philadelphia. George Washington and his “army” stayed at Valley Forge for approximately six months. During winter, conditions at Valley Forge were very cruel and unforgiving. The army was also untrained and had little (if any) experience and had very few resources. There were many deadly diseases. I would not have left Valley Forge to go see my family. It shows the army barefoot. This resulted in frostbite and men losing toes. “There comes a soldier, his bare feet are seen thro’ his worn out shoes, his legs nearly naked from the tatter’d remains of an only pair of stockings”- Dr.Waldo. As you can see in the engraving, no two men wore the same thing. Dr. Waldo also said “a general cry thro’ the Camp this Evening among the Soldiers, ‘No meat! No meat’ - the Distance vales Echo’d back the melancholy sound - ‘No meat! No meat!”.The lack of supplies and aggressive weather makes the soldiers more hostile, hostility they should use towards the british.
In February 1778 approximately 8,000 soldiers were at Valley Forge, 3,989 of those were reported sick. That is 49.9%, almost half of the soldiers. This is according to Noel F Busch and researchers at the University of Michigan. Dr. Waldo also said “vomit half my time”. The lack of soldiers to fight should only motivate the soldiers to stay.
In order to gain freedom from the British reign, we must fight and fight hard. The lack of soldiers and resources should motivate all to fight against the tyrant, King George. Yes, Valley Forge was hell but I would have stayed and fight amongst George Washington and the Continental
