Before Vans, there was Nike. Nike was founded in 1964. It was founded by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight. They came up with the idea because Mr. Knight was a mid-distance runner, looking for better shoes; Mr. Bowerman was a man interested in making a living without having to give up his love for athletics. Shortly after, in 1964, it was founded under the name of Blue Ribbon Sports. It also was a distributor for the Japanese shoemaker, Onitsuka Tiger. They got the name Nike from the Greek Goddess. The thing that sets them aside is their advertising methods. Nike tends to have more of an athletic background. There are over 100 athletes that get endorsed by Nike every year. Some of the best sport players in the world are signed with Nike, such as Lebron James and Michael Jordan. Nike gets even more glory in shoes because of Air Jordan. Air Jordans are shoes produced by Nike. Michael Jordan is considered to be one of the best basketball players of all time. He is very favored upon and even though he’s retired, he still has millions of fans. There are over 30 different silhouettes of Air Jordans. Nike has over 12 trillion different styles of shoes, plus the others they are producing with different people like Kevin Durant and Lebron James. Nike buys at least $900 million worth the material to make their shoes. Nike gets most of its attention from athletes because they believe that they have the best gear. Nike doesn’t get all its attention because of the athletes; they know what the consumers like. They use the consumers taste to create interesting advertisements to get people to buy their shoes. For example, the Roshe Runs LD-1000, they recreated them to look better. They’re basically the same shoe, but the used adjectives. Adjectives make things more appealing, especially products.
