Ventricular Tachycardia (V-tach) is a fast heart rhythm that starts in the lower part of the heart. Some forms of ventricular tachycardia may get worse and if it lasts more than just a few seconds, can lead to ventricular fibrillation if left untreated. If it leads to ventricular fibrillation, the heartbeats are so fast and irregular that the heart stops pumping blood, which is a leading cause to cardiac death. WebMD (WebMD, August 2014)
In most cases ventricular tachycardia is caused by heart disease, such as a previous heart attack, a congenital heart defect, hyper trophic or dilated cardiomyopathy, or myocarditis.
