"A Letter Home" and "Waiting for Dan" are very similar and different. The characters the plot, and all the events contribute to that, according to "A Letter Home” the story gives a summary, “In 1970, the United States was involved in the Vietnam War. Many Americans opposed the war and wanted it to end. Protests took place in many cities and on college campuses. So with any similarity, there is a difference and you will see this idea in the upcoming paragraphs.
Similarities are the things that are common between things. This can be anything from characters to the setting. In this paragraph, you will learn about two important similarities between "A Letter Home" and "Waiting for Dan". My first similarity is the idea that both these character endured cruel punishment. Although one of the characters was watching they still had to see and feel the horror of it all. You can see my first idea from the story "A Letter Home", “Then suddenly, the soldiers began shooting, and the whole scene became total panic and confusion” (5). War is not a good thing and it should end. Yo can see Kara’s idea here, “Violence is not the answer to these problems. We should not be in Vietnam” (7). Vietnam is the place where a very brutal war took place. Kara doesn't know what happens yet but her ideas are correct we shouldn’t have been in that war in the first place. My next piece of evidence shows how Dan was dealing with a different problem, racial equality, “The Freedom Ride would bring the race issue to the forefront of American politics” (7). This piece of support clearly shows how Dan is fighting for a completely different cause. He’s fighting for racial equality. My last different deal with the time periods and places these event stories took place at or described. In the story "A Letter Home" Kara is in college and this is during the 70’s. You can see this here, “In 1970, the United States was involved in the Vietnam War. Many Americans opposed the war and wanted it to end. Protests took place in many cities and on college campuses.” This piece of evidence shows that this event took place during the 1970’s and was a college. This was different
