The 1700’s were a very crucial time for change in France. Before the revolution and the idea of change would start being conspired there were conversations that would inspire the motives to rise against the powerful and wealthy. The abundance in land made France suitable for farms, this would benefit what are the first and second class of the population in France. At this time France’s population was divided into three different classes, the first being the church, second being the nobles that owned the land, and the third class is compiled of bourgeoisie, city workers and peasants. The first and second class benefits from the over inflated taxes the third class had to pay. This left a large amount of the third class (city workers,peasants) impoverished and hungry. These places were called salons, the third class population would come into these establishments and the bourgeoisie (whom were hosts) would read philosophy and have conversations regarding the perspective of these scriptures. An example of philosophy inspiring the French Revolution is that these philosophy writers perspectives related toward the third population. For example in document 8 there's a statement saying “ The aim of every political association is the conservation of imprescriptible rights of man; these rights are liberty, property, security and resistance to oppression”. This is what the third population wanted although being selective of what each individual wanted, whether that be lower taxes, political power or civil rights. As said in document 4 “the Revolution had been accomplished in the mind of men long before it was translated into fact”. This means that people had ideas of change before the revolution but it took these salons with philosophical conversations,information and numbers in people who would fight for their
