When considered through a Christian perspective, the story A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens can be seen as an allegory of Christian redemption. Before Marley’s ghost visited Scrooge, he was a greedy, cruel person. The three spirits in the story show Scrooge that he is a bad person, but can still redeem himself. The first ghost to visit Scrooge was the Ghost of Christmas Past. It is indescribably young and old. The ghost is short like a child, but with the white hair of an old man. The glowing figure was blurry, going in and out of view. It has a muscular build and no wrinkles were to be seen. It wore a candle snuffer as a cap. The Ghost of Christmas Past came to enlighten Scrooge of his past to show him what he had done. The first thing the spirit shows Scrooge was him in school by himself. His little sister Fan came in to tell him that his father wants him to come home for Christmas. She persuades him to go with her in a coach. In another vision, they see Scrooge as a young man and his fellow apprentice Dick Wilkins helping old Fezziwig prepare for a party. The ghost has a friendly face and a cheery voice. The spirit possessed a rusted, antique scabbard, but there was no sword.
