In The Kite Runner, Amir, the son of Baba, is living a good life. Baba was one of the more wealthy people in this novel. He made it to where he provided almost anything Amir wanted. However, Amir never thought that him and Baba bonded like they should have. Baba is described as a big, muscular guy that has a nice muscle car. Most people don’t want to mess with Baba because of his appearance. Baba is great at sports and can intimidate almost anyone. Amir is pretty much the complete opposite of Baba. Amir isn’t good at sports, won’t stand up for anyone, and doesn’t have the same interests as Baba does. Baba talks to his business partner, Rahim Khan, and tells him he doesn’t even think Amir is actually kin to him because he doesn’t act at all like Baba. After Hassan dies, Amir is heartbroken because he never got to apologize to Hassan for not standing up to Assef when he was raping Hassan. Amir is told by Rahim Khan that Sohrab is in an orphanage in Afghanistan and Amir decides to go get him. Along the way, Amir decides he will keep Sohrab and adopt him since him and his wife cannot have a baby. Amir has to fight for Sohrab to come home with him. Ironically, the person Amir has to fight is Assef, the same person that raped Sohrab’s father. Assef used his brass knuckles to beat Amir an inch away from dying. Before he can finish Amir off, Sohrab uses his slingshot and shoots Assef in the eye, just like his father taught him to. Amir takes very good care of Sohrab, but Sohrab takes a while to “adapt” to Amir because to Sohrab, Amir was a complete stranger.
