Gerrymandering is to manipulate the boundaries of (an electoral constituency) so as to favor one party or class. There are 3 types of gerrymandering, excess vote, wasted vote and stacked. Gerrymandering is used as a political way to achieve desired electoral results for a particular party, or it may be used to help a particular group of constituents, for example, a political, racial, linguistic or religious groups. The practice of Gerrymandering has been around since 1812 when it was first appeared in Boston. It was contrived after a cartoon depiction of a redistricting attempt in Massachusetts when Governor Gerry changed the constituency favoring the Democratic - Republican Party over the Federalists.
