A time when a human changes from being a child to a young adult is a very important stage of their life. A time when a child had to learn new virtues such as respect, faith, and maturity. But out of all of those maturity is the most important. A child that is not mature is not going to be able to think critically when needed, this means that he could make decisions that could harm him or others around him. Ponyboy is that child who can’t make good decisions. Ponyboy is not a mature child, a child with half the maturity would make better decisions than Ponyboy. Pony Boy can not think critically. That is why he makes decisions based around himself and no one else. An example of this could be going to the movies by himself. Even though he was told to take a friend, he blatantly choose not too. This could of caused harm to him or someone else. If his mom saw him by himself she would be very frightened and worried for her son, because that’s what good parents do. For most children that time comes around the age of four to six, and this usually occurs when when a child’s parent do not let them get a lollipop or some sort of childish thing. Ponyboy the main character in Outsiders has not had that eureka moment and is fourteen years old. He still thinks that the whole earth revolves around him.
