While reading The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, I became very interested in the role of alcohol in the lives of the Walls as well as its effect on society as a whole. Grieved by the crib death of his second daughter, Mary Charlene (27), Rex Walls began to withdraw from his reality through the use of alcohol.
