It was late at night when the old man heard something in his house. He shot up out of bed and called out “who’s there?” He sat up for more than an hour trying to calm himself down, saying” it’s only the chimney or a mouse crossing the floor” (page 91). Little did he know, these were the last words he would ever speak.

What could have vexed him so much to do something to this old man? It was the old man’s eye. There was something about it that made him so mad. Every time he looked at it, it vexed him more and more. So finally he came up with a plan to murder the old man. He watched the old man for a week and on the 8th night he killed him. He stuck into his house and crushed him under his bed. After he could hear the man no more, he decapitated him and cut off his arms.

What was his motive? He must be insane because, well, who murder’s someone because they didn’t like their eye? And then chops up their body? The cops were called after the neighbor heard a loud screech. The cops came in and while he was talking to them, he suddenly got very anxious. Why? Because he thought he heard the old man’s heartbeat. Only some who is crazy hears someone’s heartbeat after their head got cut off. A normal person doesn’t just kill someone because they don’t like a feature of them.

The narrator, which is the murderer did admit that the old was buried under the floorboards but he did not fully admit that he was guilty. When he goes to court I think that he will take responsibility for his actions. But I do think he will try and make his story up by saying that he killed him because of his eye and why should he be in trouble for that? Even though it is crazy that he killed someone because of his eye, I think he will try and make it seem that it’s not a big deal because his eye bugged him so
