v What is the theme of this novel. The theme of this book is that actions always have consequence is the focal topic of Whirligig. Whirligig by Paul Fleischman is an inspirational book about consequences, change and ultimately overcoming the past. There are many themes in this book, such as do not drink and drive, be yourself, and do not dwell on the past. Out of those three the one most shown throughout the book is do not dwell on the past. Brent, the main character, went to a party and was drinking ( Chapter # 3) . He was embarrassed at the party and was dwelling on it so much that he got in” his car and was drunk”, and got in a car accident and killed a girl named Lea, while attempting to kill himself. I felt bad because he was lonely and parties are a place to enjoy and have fun. But in Brent case it was total different he was the new kid that no one knew, and when he went to ask the girl out she total embarrassed him.

3. In my novel the main character starts to slowly change. in the beginning Brent Bishop is obnoxious and didn't really care for others but after he had killed poor lea he started to change into a sacred,self conscious person. When he visited the countries he started improving his attitude and become more bold when he would meet a person he would want to become more like them and set goals to make changes in his life.

Every different person,and place changed Brent but what mostly inspired him to change was making whirligigs. While building the fun toy Brent would feel a little happy making them because it would bring happiness to children , adults, and bring Lea's spirit alive. At the end Brent was changed he was a good person and talented and plans to fish school and have a good career and good life for himself and for
