Can being passionate lead to your downfall? One of the predominant themes in William Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, is their passion, which is easily identifiable. Shakespeare has shown how individuals who allow passion rule over reason, can impact themselves and others, negatively. Tybalt is a cocky and aggressive character who has a will to fight the Montague's. Romeo is an impulsive and sensitive person who is possessed by his passion for Juliet. Juliet is naive, and deeply in love with Romeo which makes her act selfishly. These characters are all blinded into fulfilling their objectives.

Firstly, Tybalt is a cocky and aggressive character who wants to fight the Montague's. In Act one, Scene one, Benvolio is trying to stop the servants of the Capulet and Montague houses from fighting. In Act two, Scene two, Romeo goes to visit Juliet secretly at her home, Romeo says “With love's light wings did I o’erperch these walls” (2.2.66). Juliet replies “ If they do see thee, they will murder thee” (2.2.70). It was a very irrational move to visit your feudal family rival and sneak into their home. Romeo could have been caught leading to his death, which will sadden Juliet and Romeo’s family, causing a feud war. As well as at the end, Romeo swallows the poison from the apothecary after he thinks Juliet's dead, Romeo exclaims “Here to my love![Drinks] Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die.[Dies] (5.3.119-120). Romeo doesn't wait, he acts impulsively and hastily, this compulsiveness leads to his tragic downfall, were if he waited he would find Juliet alive, not causing Juliet to stab herself and everybody to mourn for this.
