Monsters hide in plain sight, even appearing in Disney movies including The Lion King. During the movie, The Lion King, Scar undermines the power of the king, Mufasa, kills Mufasa, attempts to kill Simba the rightful heir, and then takes Pride Rock for himself. The Lion King, ties into the book written by W. Scott Poole Monsters in America, which talks about the Vietnam War and how during the conflict the American soldiers become monsters by making their body count of their victims their main priority. Throughout the movie The Lion King, the monster blatantly appears as the character Scar. This becomes clear after he forces his brother, Mufasa, the king, to fall to his death resulting in Scar ascending to the throne to become King of Pride Rock. From the very beginning of the movie, we see the resentment building when Scar misses the birth and introduction of Simba to the pride to undermine Mufasa’s power. When Mufasa and Zazu go out to visit Scar after the celebration of Simba, Zazu is the first to arrive to see Scar playing with a mouse, Scar then tries to eat Zazu but Mufasa steps in to ask about Scars attendance. Scar pretends that time slipped away from him and didn’t know the celebration was on that day. After Scar’s failed attempt to kill Simba in the elephant graveyard, Scar decides he must think bigger and he will need help from the hyenas. The reason for Simba going beyond the safety of the Pride Lands was due to Scar teasing him into exploring the elephant graveyard. In the graveyard, the hyenas toy with the Simba, Nala, and Zazu. They attempt to kill the two cubs. Zazu knows they were in danger goes to find Mufasa and he steps in right before the hyenas did any serious damage to Simba and Nala. Afterwards Scar and the hyenas discuss that they will kill Mufasa and Simba so Scar can become King of Pride
