Of the Superstitious Tendencies among Those of the Church
Why are Christians so suspecting to falling into superstitions? This question is asked by both Christian and non-Christians. Most people would agree that Christians can be easily suspect to superstition, the discussion, however, is the question of why. Some say that it is due to the individual Christian being barren of wisdom, but others say that since Christianity is full of superstitions it is natural for a Christian to believe superstitions. The belief in superstitions of a Christian is due to that lack of wisdom on the part of that individual, for two main reasons. They lack an essential understanding and they lack true faith.
The first reason is that they lack an essential understanding. Of the things that Christians must have the knowledge, understanding is one of the most important, knowledge and understanding of what the Bible contains and the evidence for what it contains. One must know the first word of God says which prevents any unbiblical superstition and the knowledge of the evidence for the Bible shows that there is solid and true evidence to support the biblical. By far the most fundamental element of Christianity is the true faith. Unfortunately, most do not understand the meaning of true faith and disregard any talk of faith as childish or foolhardy; also, even many who profess to be Christians also have the wrong idea as well. Generally, people think of faith as believing something with no proof or reason, but faith in its truest form firmly knows something that is beyond one’s self. In this context firmly means that there are reasons and evidence to believe so. Lacking this understanding of the meaning faith, it is not a far jump for those who lack the faith to fall into believing in
