Why are Concussions so Dangerous? Did you know that as many as many as 4000+ people get concussions every day in the United States? Concussions have been a rising problem in the United States over the past decade. Because concussion symptoms can worsen over time and lead to life-threatening situations, people need to know the different types of injuries, symptoms, and what types of treatments to receive if they experience one. So what is in the head in the first place? The brain is the main thing that is in the brain. The brain is a very durable structure with lots of built in protection. Different parts of the brain can move at different speeds which can cause painful forces that can stretch and tear nerve tissue (“What happens in the brain during and after a concussion”). Some of the damaged nerve fibers can recover from the injury, but in severe cases the injured nerve fibers can permanently lose their ability to send signals and communicate with other brain cells (“What happens in the brain during and after a
