Why Did Jefferson Davis Win The Civil War Essay

On April 2nd, 1865 the Confederate president, Jefferson Davis, was seen running away with three of his Virginian advisors. He ran away from the town of Richmond, Virginia when it was set on fire, due to neither the Confederacy or South not wanting the Union or North, to have any of their supplies when they came to end the war once and for all. The events that led up to this cowardly run-away put Jefferson under a great amount of stress and responsibility that he just couldn’t handle any more. Also his number one general, Robert E. Lee, had rarely ever listened to him throughout his presidency. Originally Jefferson hadn’t even wanted to be president. Mr. Davis had wanted to be general, but when he was elected, he had to be president. If he wouldn’t have been, the Confederates would have lost their confidence and fighting spirit and would not have even wanted to complete what they started. Before the Civil War started, Davis had been a carefree and mischievous soldier, but when his family started failing and going under he became a hard-working, serious, and helpful man to keep his family up and going. He started to farm cotton and married the daughter of General Zachary Taylor, Sarah Knox Taylor. Sadly she died of malaria only three months after their marriage.
