First off, good morning your honor and members of the jury. According to the law my client, Mary Maloney, is innocent until proven guilty. In this trial, I will prove to you that Mary Maloney is innocent and that there is no any hard evidence to put her behind bars. You will come to know that Mary Maloney, six months pregnant at that time, was under temporary insanity when she committed the crime. She was in distress when Mr. Maloney told her that he wanted a divorce, that added to the stress she’s having because of the pregnancy. With the shocking news and so much pressure, my client snapped and unknowingly smashed her husband’s head with a frozen lamb’s leg. For this reason I believe, Mary Maloney is innocent and not guilty.
