In 1848, the face of the Unites States was rapidly changing. America was progressively moving toward a nation of forward thinking and equality. Women in this time period were also seeking equality. In 1848, a conference was held that helped establish a basic set of grievances that the women of 1848 were experiencing. Even though women would not win their rights for almost seventy years, the Declaration of Rights helped set the stage for the women’s rights and suffrage movement. The first way the Declaration of Sentiments helped establish the Women’s suffrage movement was in the exceptional clarity in which the women of the convention stated their grievances with both men and society. Without a clear list of the problems that women were facing, there could be no suffrage. When these women explained what they thought was wrong with society, as well/a s what they believed they deserved, they made great progress in their quest to gain rights, as well as break down the societal barriers that had been placed upon them since birth. Before the seneca falls conference, the organization of a women’s rights movement was non-existent. When the convention happened, it was the first time that an organized women’s rights group had been established in the United States. This was a major step in the fight for women’s rights. People would take an organized group much more seriously than a simple rag tag group of women who were talking about rights. When this group was established, it meant that the women of these groups could now make organized efforts to combat the persecution and discrimination against women in the United States.
