The role of women in Puritan society has perfect embodiment in Hawthorne’s novel. Hester’s location of lodging, being right on the edge of civilized versus wild, only begins to expound upon the Puritan view of women during this time period. Women typically got married in their early twenties and carried out their role as baby producers until menopause. They typically produced about two babies a year.
